Jaja Dare

JAJA is a Wiradjuri woman and founder of Decolonise. Jaja works across multiple aspects of design, marketing and visual arts and has received much recognition for her work including being awarded a National Indigenous Music Award (NIMA) for Album Art of the Year for the design of Gawurra’s Ratja Yaliyali 2016.

JAJA’s visual arts work reflects matrifocal ancestry lines, identity, country, trauma patterns and socio-political issues. Vividly textured artworks are developed by fusing symbolic gestures, typography and primal markings to create the notion of palimpsest; representing the embedded layers of the rich and traumatic history of the Australian government’s enforcement of assimilation policies in their pursuit to create a uniformed white Australian culture. JAJA has delivered works for solo and group exhibitions since 2000.
